NPL SUSPENDS 3SC STRIKER

Shooting Stars Sports Club [3SC] forward, Gbolahan Salami, has been charged by the Nigeria Premier League [NPL] for improper misconduct in one of last weekend’s opening day of the season. The former Junior International marksman has been subsequently handed a two-game suspension by the Premier League.

The suspension begins this weekend and it will mean that Shooting Stars will face Zamfara United in an away game of Week Two without the two-goal hero in their last game.

According to a statement from the Premier League, Salami attempted to attack Sunshine Stars head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, after he cancelled a six-minute strike by Akombo Ukeyima.

"Gbolahan Salami displayed gross indiscipline for attempting to attack Sunshine Stars coach Gbenga Ogunbote after he equalised in Ibadan. He also used indecent words on the coach when he celebrated in front of the Sunshine Stars bench after the goal. He has been suspended for two games and this will start from his team’s next game this Sunday against Zamfara United," the statement said.

In the wake of the development, Chairman of the NPL, Davidson Owumi, warned that the Premier League will bring the full weight of the punishment embedded in the rules and regulation against any player in the top-flight that misbehaves in the course of the season.

"The Premier League will not tolerate players misbehaving as this is not a season of business as usual.
"There will be no exemption in the applying of the rules and regulation governing players this season. We intend to bring issues of misbehaviour from players to the minimum," said Owumi.
