ARSENAL SIGNS KOLASINAC

Arsenal have announced the signing of defender Sead Kolasinac from Schalke on a free transfer.

Arsene Wenger has been hot on the trail of the Bosnia and Herzegovina international for some time and the Gunners had to stave off fierce competitions from several clubs to land their man after opening negotiations in April.

Kolasinac helped Schalke to a 10th placed finish in the Bundesliga last season, while they reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League where they were knocked out by eventual beaten finalists Ajax.

Kolasinac was born in Germany, has a German passport and represented the country from under 18 to under 20 level before switching his allegiance to Bosnia. He can also play at centre-back or as a defensive midfielder.

The defender is due to meet up with his new team-mates in July for the start of the club's pre-season programme.
